David C. Lawler
Chief Executive Officer
David C. Lawler has over 33 years of experience in the energy sector. Lawler most recently served as the Chairman and President of BP America from 2020 to 2023. As the chief representative in the United States, Lawler led the collective efforts of bp’s businesses, representing 30,000 employees and capital deployed of $150+ billion since 2005. This role included the formation and implementation of the integrated US strategy to achieve net zero by 2050 in collaboration with the US Leadership Team, and the oversight of resilient hydrocarbons, convenience and mobility, along with key investments in low carbon energy. Lawler also served on the Executive Committee of the American Petroleum Institute from 2020-2023.
In addition to his role as Chairman and President of BP America, Lawler also served as CEO of bpx energy, bp’s onshore unconventional and midstream business from 2014 to 2023. In 2018, Lawler led the $10.5 billion acquisition of BHP’s onshore assets, the largest acquisition for bp in more than 20 years. Lawler built a world class team to operate bpx energy, delivering significant year-on-year improvements in process safety, emissions, flaring, production, operating cost, capital efficiency and free cash flow, materially increasing the value of the business beyond the initial investment.
Lawler joined bpx in 2014 from SandRidge Energy, a US-based oil and gas independent, where he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for three years. For four years prior to SandRidge, Lawler was Chief Executive Officer and President of PostRock Energy Corporation and its predecessor entities. Prior to PostRock, he worked for Shell E&P Co. for 10 years in leadership and technical assignments within the deepwater and gulf coast business units, and provided business support to the CEO of Shell Americas. Lawler began his career as a Production Engineer with Conoco and as a Drilling Engineer with Burlington Resources.
A Denver native, Lawler graduated from the Colorado School of Mines with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering in 1990 before earning an MBA from Tulane University in 2003. He is also a Trustee of the Colorado School of Mines, appointed by Colorado Governor Jared Polis in 2022, and a director of LNG Energy Group (TSXV:LNGE), a regional growth platform based in Latin America.
Robby McDaniel
Chief Operating Officer
Prior to joining Kimmeridge Texas Gas in 2023, Mr. McDaniel worked for Western Natural Resources in 2020 and served as the Chief Operating Officer. He has 20 years of upstream O&G experience leading teams in many different geographic locations and operating conditions. Mr. McDaniel began his career at BP working in reservoir, production, and completion engineering roles in various onshore US and Alaska assets. In 2010, he joined Midstates Petroleum where he led operations groups in the Gulf Coast and Mid-Continent. Before Western, he was the VP Operations for Stonegate Production, a private equity backed Eagle Ford operator. Mr. McDaniel earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering and a BA in Economics degrees from Rice University.
Matt Pierce
Vice President, Corporate Development
Before joining Kimmeridge Texas Gas in 2023, Mr. Pierce was VP of Corporate Development for Laredo Energy for 6 years. Prior to Laredo he spent two years as Corporate Finance Manager at Tall City Exploration, LLC. A graduate from Loyola University New Orleans with a BBA in Finance, he began his career as an analyst in investment banking at Parkman Whaling, LLC. In 2012, he worked for Amromco Energy and served as Senior Financial Analyst in Corporate Development.
Bryan Gunderson
Chief Financial Officer
Bryan Gunderson is the Chief Financial Officer of Kimmeridge Texas Gas (“KTG”) after having served as a Senior Advisor to the company and a Member of the company’s Board of Directors. Previously, Mr. Gunderson was Chief Executive Officer of Daytona Resources and President and Chief Executive Officer of Falcon Minerals (NASDAQ: FLMN) after being promoted from his role as Chief Financial Officer. Before joining Falcon, Mr. Gunderson served as an Executive Vice President of Finance at Nine Point Energy, completed a rotation program within General Electric’s Energy Financial Services business, and worked as an investment banker at Lehman Brothers in the Natural Resources group. Mr. Gunderson holds a BA from Bard College and an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
F. Octavio Saenz
Vice President, Accounting
F. Octavio Saenz has over 23 years financial accounting and reporting experience in the energy industry as well as public accounting assurance and advisory experience. He recently served in a variety of roles in the upstream segment of the energy industry including as Vice President of Accounting for Laredo Energy, LLC and Controller and Vice President for Stonegate Production Company. Mr. Saenz was a Senior Manager for Ernst and Young’s Houston Transaction Advisory Practice focused on M&A work for energy industry clients as well as a Senior Manager in KPMG’s Houston assurance practice serving both private and publicly traded clients. Mr. Saenz graduated with high honors from the University of Texas (El Paso) with a BBA in Accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Jake Folz
Vice President, Drilling
Jake Folz combines more than 15 years of drilling and operations experience primarily focused on the Eagle Ford Shale and Austin Chalk in South Texas. Prior to joining Kimmeridge Texas Gas, he served as Vice President, Drilling for Laredo Energy, where he was responsible for all drilling-related operations in their Webb County position. Mr. Folz previously held various roles of increasing responsibility for GeoSouthern Energy, Stonegate Production Company, and Swift Energy. Mr. Folz began his career as an MWD/LWD engineer with Weatherford Drilling Services. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maine at Orono.
Tanner Sykes
Vice President, Land and Legal
Tanner Sykes joined the KTG team as VP of Land & Legal. Mr. Sykes has previous experience with advising public and private companies in connection with corporate and commercial matters and strategic transactions. Prior to KTG, he practiced law at Mayer Brown LLP where his practice focused on a wide range of domestic and international corporate and energy-related matters. Previously, he served as VP-Land & General Counsel for Sierra Resources, LLC. While in this role, Sierra partnered with multiple private equity sponsors for the acquisition, development and divestment of oil and gas properties along the Gulf Coast. Mr. Sykes began his career as a Landman with El Paso Corporation in 2007. He has extensive energy experience in several US basins, the Gulf of Mexico and in Latin America and has a deep understanding of all phases of oil and gas development, operations, and land management. Mr. Sykes earned his undergraduate degrees from Texas Tech University and a Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law Houston.
Ken Cravens
Senior Advisor, Land
Mr. Cravens brings more than 41 years of industry experience to Kimmeridge Texas Gas. Prior to joining KTG, he was Vice President of Land for Laredo Energy since 2007. He was Land Manager-South Texas for Rosetta Resources and worked for Calpine after its purchase of Michael Petroleum. Mr. Cravens has a BBA from Texas State University, is member of the American Association of Professional Landmen, the Houston Association of Professional Landmen, and has been with the Webb County-South Texas Project since its inception in 2007. Mr. Cravens is a Certified Professional Landman.
